Jazz the Hedgehog walked down the sidewalk, hands in her shorts pockets. It was night in the city and the streets were empty, except for the occasional passer-by. The full moon shone faintly while the stars twinkled, but it was a shame nobody could watch their brilliance, for the city lights were bright and masqueraded as stars themselves.
Jazz continued down the sidewalk slowly, lost in her surroundings. Bored, she looked at her phone to check the time.
"Aw Crap! "She muttered, realizing that it was already 10:00 and shoving her phone back into her pocket, "I'm gonna be late!"
Breaking into a sprint, Jazz flew down the city sidewalk. After minutes of dodging other passing mobians, she finally arrived at her destination.
She stood before a enormous, neon club called "The Streetlight". The music from inside was so loud that it caused it and the surrounding street to seem like it was vibrating. A line of mobians stood at the entrance behind a red velvet rope. A muscular bulldog mobian was blocking the front doors.
Jazz calmly walked up to the bulldog guard and flipped out her VIP card, showing it to him. He recognized it immediately and opened the door for her. She nodded in gratitude and walked into a long black hallway. Jazz heard the door click shut behind her. She stood before two black, double doors.
She took a deep breath, then stepped forward and pushed the doors open.
Deafening music exploded into her ears as she stepped into the flashy club. There were people crowding the dance floor, cheering and moving to the beats of the playing music. A karaoke stage was in front of it, and two mobians were singing their hearts out. There were metal tables on the right while there was a bar on the left.
Jazz ignored everything and walked towards the stage. She took a sharp left turn when she reached it and stepped into a hallway with a sign that read BACKSTAGE. She continued down it and stepped into a dimly lit dressing room.
Closing the door behind her, Jazz smiled when she saw a female tiger dressed in purple sitting in front of the mirror, looking at her claws.
"Hey Hikari." Jazz said, walking up to her. "I thought you said that you couldn't make it."
"Eh, I thought I couldn't either." Hikari replied, smiling and standing up from her seat, allowing Jazz to sit in it instead.
"Thanks. Do you know how long until we're on stage?" Jazz asked, checking her reflection.
"I think about ten or five minutes. I can't really keep track these days. The sun and moon are the only clocks I can understand!"
Jazz laughed and began to smooth her quills with some water.
"So this is your first time doing karaoke? " she inquired, turning her chair to face Hikari.
"Yeah. Is it scary, singing on a stage with people watching? I mean, the only people I've ever sang in front of were my parents and Gale."
"Heh, you two are such lovebirds."
"Gale and I?"
"Yeah."
"Well, we are dating. He's so sweet..."
"Hm."
They stood in silence for a few heartbeats. Then they both jumped as someone knocked on their dressing room door.
"Come in!" Jazz called.
A green, female cat peeked her head out from behind the door.
"You guys are up next. Time for you to start heading for the stage." she told them. She then closed the door and left Hikari and Jazz alone.
Jazz sighed and looked back at Hikari. Her eyes were wide and she was clasping her hands together tightly. Jazz patted her on the shoulder.
"Don't worry. You'll be great." Jazz assured Hikari, walking towards the door, opening it, and walking into the hallway. Hikari followed her silently. When they finally arrived next to the stage, they waited patiently for the song to end. When it finally did, they were signaled to walk on stage.
Jazz grabbed two microphones and handed one to Hikari. They then both walked up the small stairs onto the stage. All eyes were on the two of them.
"How is everyone tonight?" Jazz spoke into the microphone. The crowd cheered in reply.
"You all know me as Jazz. Tonight, I've brought a good friend of mine. Her name is Hikari and this is her first time singing. Everyone give her a big welcome!"
The crowd erupted into cheers and applause. Hikari smiled and waved.
"Alright, let's do this!"  Jazz shouted, signaling to the DJ in the back. The music began to play and both Hikari and Jazz took a deep breath.

Jazz started to sing the first lyrics that began to appear on the screen on the opposite side of the club

Why am I always hit on the boys I never like? I can always see them coming from the left or from the right.
Hikari then stepped up and started her part.
I don't wanna be a priss. I'm just trying to be polite, but it always bite me in the-
Ask me for my number, yeah you put me on the spot.
You think we should hook up, but I think that we should not.
You had me at hello then you opened up your mouth.

Jazz and Hikari both turned to each other and began to sing in sync.

And that is when it started going south, Oh!
get your hands off my hips,
Before I punch you in the lips.
Stop your staring at my-
Hey!
Take a hint, take a hint!
No, you can't buy me a drink!
Let me tell you what I think,
I think you could use a mint!
Take a hint, take a hint!
Take a hint, take a hint!

Jazz realized that Hikari was now really enthusiastic about singing, watching her dance a little and moving her head and hands with the beat of the music. She smiled and decided to take it up a notch.

I guess you still don't get it so let's take it from the top.
You asked me what my sign was and I told you it was STOP.
And if I had a dime for every name you just dropped...

They both glanced at each other between lyrics and dances and smiled at each other.

You'd be here and I'd be on a yacht, oh!
Get you hands off my hips,
Before I punch in the lips.
Stop your staring at my-
Hey!
Take a hint, take a hint!
No, you can't buy me a drink!
Let me tell you what I think,
I think you could use a mint!
Take a hint, take a hint!
Take a hint, take a hint!

The crowd was cheering wildly and both Jazz and Hikari were loving it. They both nodded at each other and walked up to the front of the stage. They looked down at all the mobians and pointed at them all.

What about no don't you get?
So go and tell you friends,
I'm not really interested.

Its about time your leaving!
I'm gonna count to three and open my eyes and you'll be gone.

Hikari raised her hands and lifted one finger to signify that she was counting.

One.
Get you hands off my-

She lifted two fingers.

Two.
Or I'll punch you in the-

Hikari now raised her third finger and showed her fangs.

Three!
Stop you staring at my-
HEY!
Take a hint, take a hint!
I am not you missing link!
Let me tell you what I think,
I think you could use a mint!
Take a hint, take a hint!
Take a hint, take a hint!

Woa-oh
Get your hands of my hips,
Before I punch you in the lips!
Stop your staring at my-
Hey!
Take a hint, take a hint!
T-take a hint, take a hint!

The song had finally finished and both Hikari and Jazz stood there, panting and breathing hard. Everyone in the club screamed and cheered. Someone threw a flower on stage. Jazz and Hikari grinned and bowed. They were then signaled to walk offstage.
Jazz threw her arm over Hikari's shoulder and hugged her tightly as they made their way down the backstage hallway. They both smiled and laughed. They didn't know why they were laughing, though. Maybe because they knew people loved they're singing, or maybe they were just plain happy and tired.
When they both arrived at their dressing room, Jazz flopped down on chair in front of the mirror while Hikari sat down on the floor, playing with some small flames on her fingertips.
A few minutes later, someone knocked on the door.
"I'll get it." Hikari mumbled, getting up and stretching. Sighing, she slowly walked over to the door and opened it.
There stood Gale the Hedgehog, holding a big bouquet of red and white roses. Hikari stood frozen for a moment, mouth gaping in awe. Then she squealed an tackle-hugged Gale, almost knocking him over.
Jazz giggled and smiled. She watched as Gale laughed and spun Hikari around in the air. After watching them talk for a little while, Gale left and Hikari closed the door, holding the big bouquet. She walked back over to Jazz.
"Gale and I are going for a walk in the park. Wanna come?" Hikari asked.
"Nah, you two go ahead. I'm going to walk back home." Jazz replied, standing up and walking towards the door.
Hikari nodded and walked with Jazz out of the back exit with her. She then walked away towards the park.
Jazz continued back down the sidewalk, blue and white street lights eliminating  her path. Once again bored, she looked up at the sky. She gasped and stopped as a shooting star flew across the night sky.
Quick, make a wish! She told herself. But then she paused.
"I don't need to make a wish for anything." Jazz thought aloud, smiling faintly,"I have everything I would ever want right here."
